Join the 2022-2023 Friends Board

  • We continually seek new candidates

  • This is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity

  • Minimum two year commitment required

  • The Board meets one evening per month (Sept-June) at the Library’s Main Branch or virtually and work between meetings is encouraged

The Friends of the Cambridge Public Library is a volunteer-driven community membership organization open to all individuals and families who wish to participate in the ongoing celebration and support of the Cambridge Public Library, its six neighborhood branches located throughout the City of Cambridge, and the diverse population that it serves. We don't ask for donations, but rather memberships (any amount is welcome) to be used in support of activities such as Summer Reading Programs, funds for the new STEAM project, museum passes, 3D technology, the laptop kiosk, free family summer concerts, and speakers. Our biggest fundraiser/community event is the biennial Secret Garden Tour.

The Friends is managed by an active, all-volunteer Board of Directors, which seeks new members to serve at least two 10-month terms (Sept-June).

The Board seeks to be representative of the community it serves. People of diverse backgrounds with varied experiences are especially encouraged to apply. We are specifically looking for new Board members who can bring the following skills that are needed on the Board: event planning, fundraising, community outreach, nonprofit law, and graphic design. All applicants should also have enthusiasm for our mission and purpose.

Prior board experience or financial commitment to the Friends is NOT required.

To apply, please send an email telling us about yourself, your experience, and why you’d like to serve on the Board to info@cambridgepubliclibraryfriends.org. Resume optional.

Positions open until filled.
